The COVID Decade

The COVID Decade: understanding the long-term societal impacts of COVID-19

Evidence report

The British Academy was asked by the Government Office for Science to produce an independent review on the long-term societal impacts of COVID-19. This report outlines the evidence across a range of areas, building upon a series of expert reviews, engagement, synthesis and analysis across the SHAPE research community. It shows that COVID-19 has generated a series of social, economic and cultural effects which will have long-term impacts.

Shaping the COVID decade: addressing the long-term societal impacts of COVID-19

Policy report

The British Academy has undertaken the substantial task of beginning to answer the longer-term question about what the societal impacts of COVID-19 will be and how we address them. This report sets out an interrelated set of nine areas of long-term impact, seven strategic policy goals and five key principles of a facilitative policy environment for 2030. We aim here to provide decision-makers with a sense of how to start to respond to these longer-term impacts based on the current evidence, and how to shape the COVID decade.

SHAPE at the British Academy

SHAPE is a collective name for the social sciences, humanities and the arts – subjects which help us make sense of the human world, to value and express the complexity of life and culture, and to understand and solve global issues.

Publish with us – call for proposals now open

The British Academy has been publishing books for over 100 years. From early career scholars to established authors, our publishing programme showcases scholarship in the humanities and social sciences, enriching and shaping academic discourse. We are now accepting proposals for themed volumes in the ‘Proceedings of the British Academy’ series, and for monographs by Academy-support early career researchers.

Business and Management Provision in UK Higher Education

This report reflects on the provision of business and management in the UK. It has been produced as part of the British Academy’s wider observatory function, which seeks to monitor the health and sustainability of SHAPE disciplines through analysis of trends in academic provision and research. It finds that business and management studies has huge potential to drive positive long-term social change outside of academia owing to its continuing popularity, diversity and success in addressing social and environmental issues.
